Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

Wayne was born on August 25, 1947, in Dubuque, son of Clifford and Janet (Kalloway) Pregler.

Wayne was a proud life-long Dubuquer, who worked for Flexsteel Industries as an upholsterer, devoting 37 years to the company before retiring. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Judith Mess, on February 24, 1968, and they were blessed with 2 children and 29 wonderful years together, before Judith preceded him in death on April 24, 1997. After a couple years had passed, Wayne was fortunate to once again find true love, and was united in marriage to Charlene Hanson on May 29, 1999, the two became inseparable, spending almost 20 fun filled years together. In his free time, Wayne enjoyed anything that allowed him to spend time in the great outdoors, but camping and playing golf were his favorite activities. He even joined the maintenance department at the Elkader Golf and Country Club, not only so he could make sure the course was always in tip top shape, but to give him extra time to perfect his golfing skills. Wayne was quite proud of the fact that he had made not only 1, but 3 holes-in-one throughout the years. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, and was very active on the local dirt track racing scene for 30 years, being involved with several championship winning teams. Wayne was also an avid bowler with the Flexsteel bowling team for 30 years. When Wayne finally officially retired from all of his jobs, he and Char became full time RVers, splitting their time between Iowa and Texas, loving every minute of it. Beyond a doubt, Wayne’s family was his pride and joy, and he took advantage of every opportunity that came along for them to spend time together. We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, but are thankful for all of the wonderful memories we have made throughout the years and will treasure forever.

5 condolences for Wayne M. Pregler
  1. Connie and Al says:

Char we are very sorry for your loss. It is sometimes hard to understand why these things happen when they do but I guess God has it all planned out for us. You and Wayne shared many special times and moments, you will cherish them forever! I believe all our loved ones are up in heaven free of illness and pain and doing all the things they love while watching over us down here. I’m sure that’s just what Wayne is doing!

  2. Dennis Mathewson says:

I am so sorry to hear of your great loss. Recently I lost my dear mother, and found comfort in the
Holy Bible, like at Isaiah 25 verse 8 – “The Sovereign Lord will swallow up death forever, and wipe
away the tears from all faces.” Also at Revelation 21 verse 4 we find God’s promise to remove
both pain and death. For more comfort, I turn to the website at: http://www.jw.org (Search: Comfort)

  3. Lynn Geno says:

We are very sorry to hear about Wayne. You are in our thoughts and prayers!

  4. David E & Jean A Schmitt says:

Wayne was our neighbor for the child rearing years.
Could not want for a better guy for sure.
Jean & I have the flu & a terrible cough that we don’t want to share, so we won’t be there today.
    Our deepest sympathy.
Our thoughts & prayers we send your way.

  5. Judie Harron says:

It saddened me to learn of Wayne’s sudden death. His father Cliff (Coco) and my mother Pearl Ohnesorge were brother and sister. I have such fond memories of growing up with Wayne and my other cousins. My sister Joan and I, our brothers John and Jim and Susan Agnitsch Tighe and her brothers and all the other Pregler cousins have so many good memories of gatherings and especially Wayne’s birthday parties as we all grew up together. His parents Cliff and Janet will welcome him with open arms. I was so happy to read of the wonderful life that Wayne had with Judy, Brian and Tracy and later with Charlene. He will be so missed by all of us. God bless!
