Herman E. “Hermie” Kloser

Herman E. “Hermie” Kloser, age 86, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 4:50 p.m., on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at UnityPoint Health Finley Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. To honor Hemie’s life, funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, with Deacon John Stierman officiating. To celebrate Hermie’s life, family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m., until the time of services at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street.

Hermie was born on April 13, 1933, in North Buena Vista, Iowa, son of Albert and Lucy (Riniker) Kloser.

Hermie was born and raised in North Buena Vista where he worked on the farm from the time he was young. He was drafted during the Korean War, into the U.S. Army, and would honorably serve his country for 4 years. When Hermie returned home he would return to farming and marry the love of his life, Mathilda “Tillie” Juran, on August 2, 1958, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Buenie. The two were blessed with 4 children and 59 wonderful years together before Tillie was sadly called home ahead of him on April 2, 2018. Hermie’s faith was always a very important aspect of his daily life and he was a long time member of Sacred Heart Church after he and Tillie moved to Dubuque. In their younger days every Saturday night was “date” night for the adorable couple, and they could be found out on the town dancing the night away. In later years, Hermie found that he enjoyed relaxing and sitting down to watch a good western movie or tv show. Family, however, meant the world to Hermie, and he loved spending time with everyone whenever the opportunity arose. We are deeply saddened at the loss of the patriarch of our family today, but take some comfort in knowing that he and his loving bride are now reunited on that big dance floor in the sky for all Eternity.

Those left to cherish Hermie’s memory include

his children,
Edward (Bette) Kloser, Darlington, WI,
Paul Kloser, Dubuque, IA,
Roger Kloser, Dubuque, IA
and Patricia (Curt) Kirschbaum, Hazel Green, WI;

a granddaughter,
Rachel (Daniel) Schmitt, Platteville, WI;

his step-grandchildren,
Joshua Wirth, Calen Wirth and Kara (Jason) Tyson;

his step-great-grandchildren,
Ashley, Courtney, Olivia and Colton Tyson;

his brother,
John (Rita) Kloser, Dubuque, IA;

and a sister-in-law,
Dee Kloser, Dubuque, IA.

Hermie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mathilda “Tillie” Kloser; and his siblings, Joe Kloser, Albert (Germaine) Kloser, Florence (“Bud”) Hefel, Frances (Ray) Steffen, Loretta (Al) Frieburg, Ann Bjerneby and Marie (George) Pluemer.

Hermie’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Stonehill and Finley Hospital, for all of the kind, loving and compassionate care they provided not only for Hermie, but his entire family.

Memorials will be accepted by the family to be distributed among his favorite charities.

  1. D. Hetrick says:

    Dear Family of Mr. Kloser,
    I am so sorry for your loss. May God’s promise bring you comfort. There will be “a new earth… and He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore… I am making all things new.” Revelation 21:1-5

  2. Chris Werner says:

    Although its been quite a few years – I still carry fond memories of the visits I had with your family when Patricia would bring Judy and I over to visit your family. I’m sorry I did not touch base with you when your Mom passed in 2018 (she was a special lady) but be assured that both your parents will be in my prayers. I hope all is well with each of you and your families and each of you have found lives of happiness and success – again – please accept my deepest condolences.
